Going back to the very beginning is a complicated endeavour, although, for now, I think I have finally worked out when it is. We need to go back to a point before Meriel, Roza, and Lorea, to the time where the first appeared. At this stage I don’t have a name for them, although there are those who would call them deities. Neither of them have a name, but they felt what was coming for the three sisters, and having been through it themselves, entirely alone, they made the decision to journey to Kalinia. Kalinia, without a name back then, is the first of the Many Worlds, with an incredibly long history. This is something I will be exploring in a lot more detail, both via these world building posts and through the fictional arcs I’m working on.
They had a similar experience, transforming from one thing to another. How this happened can be explained in one word - magic. More detail is something I will be working on, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that this universe is far more magical than our own, albeit with some similarities to the one we know. In part this is because I started with some of the Earth stories long before I had a full understanding of the Many Worlds. However, at this point, Earth is tightly entwined, and in a lot of ways it makes sense to keep it that way. What I would say is that it’s not our Earth, however much it may seem to be. Magic caused certain differences, something else I explore in the arcs I’ve been working on, as I learn more about how complicated magic is within this universe.
I’m not certain how involved the two first are when it comes to the universe in general. This is something I’m going to work through the same way I do most things - by writing about it, connecting with them in a better way than I have done before, my limited understanding something I need to change in order to be able to move forward with certain parts of the Many Worlds. One of the most complicated parts of having such a large, and still growing, creation like this is that sometimes you don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle to be able to put them together. Starting the arc for the three sisters, as they transformed from wolf to human, was how I learnt there were those who came before.
As what I hope are the first pieces of the Many Worlds puzzle, these two are people I need to understand, especially as I know how involved the sisters were with the Lupos. They do also step in with the fae at least once I know of. However it’s likely there have been more times. Meriel was on Kalinia when the fae returned, with the majority having no idea they were created by the Lupos, who are no longer on Kalinia. Neither are Lorea and Roza. Understanding why is another necessity for the future, although, by the time the fae do return, it’s been millennia. They’ve lived on two other worlds - Valatar, and Shadur. Unfortunately both had a similar fate to Kalinia. Kalinia was stronger, so survived, in a very different form to the one that came before. Neither Valatar or Shadur, as far as I know, did. This doesn’t mean their fate didn’t change in the future, but, after the fae left, they were both dead worlds.
So, who are the first? Meriel, in the sisters’ arc, meets ‘him’ first, and then ‘her’. Genders are as Meriel saw them, so there is space for this to change, depending on what feels right for them both. They, I don’t believe, are siblings, the way Meriel, Lorea, and Roza are. It’s likely they transformed on the same world, due to the magic of the universe, but what they were is something I don’t yet know. Finding names for them first seems like the logical next step. In my head, for now, they’re Cassandra and Edward, which I think are names they chose to use later on. Early on, however, it’s likely they would have had different ones, potentially linked more to what they were originally. Sticking with those makes the most sense at this point.
Cassandra is the one who felt the others. Until that point they’d be wandering, not knowing why they existed. Learning there were going to be more they made the decision together the best thing they could do was go to find them, however long the journey ended up being, in the hope they’d be able to work through things together. I think it’s likely the already started arc will be their first one too, unless the time comes when I make the decision to go back to explore their transformation. This is unlikely, although there may end up being a reason for it, because I never knew I’d end up going right back to when the sisters first transformed. Finding the others was important to them, feeling that being there to help them go through the change was important. Meriel, from the beginning, knew it was going to happen.
Each one of the five has a different innate skill. For Meriel this was being able to See, to know what was coming in the future, something that did come to be seen in others with magic. Cassandra was able to feel magic, hence her being able to guide them to where the sisters were going to be. Edward is still a mystery. Lorea and Roza were creators. Roza was able to create living beings, while Lorea was able to create entire worlds. Neither of them, at this point, know what’s to come. They don’t see who they’re going to be, although Meriel does. Making the right choices is something she’ll always be focused on, doing what she can to do what’s right for the universe, while her sisters see things differently at times.
Humans are on Earth. Their lives are changed forever by the arrival of the fae into the places of magic, but this means the places of magic existed in the first place. Understanding those places is another thing I need to do, although that’s much further in the future. I don’t believe Meriel, Lorea, and Roza had any connection with that, although there is a chance Cassandra and Edward did - or those who came later on, as I know they did exist. Exactly how the timeline works is still something I’m going through, understanding how each one affected the universe. For now we know the five of them are on Kalinia, with the three sisters learning what it means to have gone through that transformation, something which is going to take time for all of them. Until it happened there was a chance it never would. Cassandra didn’t know if the time would ever come when the two of them would meet others, or what their place was going to end up being. Had it not been for the sisters they might simply have spent the rest of time wandering.
The sisters change things. With their magics it’s different from how it was when it was just the two. Had they never existed it’s likely the fae wouldn’t have done, and neither would the Lupos. Maybe it would have been better that way, but here it’s simply how things are, because they did become something more than they could have imagined. Having the magic to See is one of the more complicated ones, something I explore in other parts of the Many Worlds, because it’s so easy for it to be used in the wrong ways, although they wouldn’t accept the argument it was wrong. They were using it for what they believed were the right reasons, with there also being those who make the decision to make anyone being able to See an impossibility. Only removing a magic like that is far more complicated than they want it to be.
Being able to See is never a choice, and Meriel is the first to have this struggle. To understand why she’s able to know what’s to come in the future, especially when some things are impossible to change, for multiple reasons. Understanding this ability means accepting what needs to happen, even if it has an effect on everything. Changing them can lead to problems later on, although there are those who do it anyway, and some who work to keep that from happening. It’s likely Meriel was involved in bringing this group into existence, to be able to keep those changes from causing too many issues, although it still did. This is seen throughout the Many Worlds, including when the fae are trying to create a safe Earth, transforming it multiple times, creating hundreds of alternate versions of one world.
Following this through, it means the fae were an inevitability, one way or another. I know, from working on certain arcs, there was another people named the fae, with something happening to them, and that’s on the list to explore. There were those who argued against using the same name twice, but going against Roza wasn’t something anyone was willing to do when she actually put her foot down. One thing I haven’t done is spent much time learning about Lorea. Roza and Meriel have each been in an arc, while Lorea has only been seen as part of the three, rather than on her own. Does this mean she’s the more quiet of the three sisters? It’s possible.
Being able to create whole worlds isn’t a small magic, any more than either of her sisters’. Lorea is as important as her siblings, although there is a chance she may not see it that way early on, or it might not come to her easily. Meriel doesn’t need to hone her skills in the same way her sisters do, but she does need to learn how to use them well. Lorea and Roza have a more complicated task in front of them, both of them able to affect the universe in different ways, and it’s possible Lorea is more willing to work with Meriel. Roza and Meriel have a much more complicated relationship. Technically, although the three of them are very different to each other, they are triplets, born in the same litter to the same mother. Being so close doesn’t mean they always like each other. However, there are times when they are willing to work together, in order to make certain something happens.
When the three of them work together they are able to send someone through time, which is likely connected in some way with Meriel’s ability to See, but this does mean exploring different elements of their magics, along with Cassandra and Edward’s. Understanding this group of five is going to be one of the most important parts of these early arcs in the Many Worlds. Everything links back to them, one way or another. Had it not been for the existence of the sisters there never would have been the fae, although, at this point, there’s no way of knowing how much have Cassandra and Edward there changed things. Was their existence something that led the three sisters down the path they ended up on?

Building up the relationship between the five of them will be interesting, and give me a better idea of when the creation of the Lupos is likely to happen, along with whether there was any earlier experimentation by Roza. It seems probable there was, even if it was starting off with something much less complicated than sentient people. She was also there to help guide the Lupos when they were creating their own peoples, something Meriel never entirely agreed with, which is understandable considering how this can affect the universe. However this does lead into the question of how different worlds evolved. Magic changed everything in this universe.
